Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and his Turkish counterpart, Rajep Tayyip Erdogan, discussed, by phone, today, Tuesday, the developments of the situation in Syria.
In a statement, the Kremlin stated that, during Tuesday’s conversation between the two sides, Putin and Erdogan exchanged views on “the situation in Syria, including the implementation of the agreements on the Idlib region to reduce escalation, especially the additional protocol concluded on March 5″ In Moscow and attached to the Sochi Memorandum, dated September 17, 2018.
The Kremlin stated that the call was made during which “the unconditional commitment to the principle of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic” was confirmed.
Putin and Erdogan also stressed “the importance of continuing close cooperation between Russia and Turkey through military and diplomatic channels,” and agreed to continue regular contacts at various levels.
This call comes after the Turkish President accused, on Monday, the Syrian government of violating the cease-fire regime in the Idlib area to reduce the escalation, vowing the authorities in Damascus to “pay a heavy price” if “violations” continue.
