The Iranian presidency announced today, Tuesday, that the Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, assured his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, of his intention to continue the “Astana formula” consultations on Syria at the highest level.

The Iranian presidency revealed, in a statement, that Rouhani told Putin, during a phone call between them: “We stress the need to continue the dialogue between Iran, Russia and Turkey within the framework of the Astana track, in order to work to resolve the crises of the region.”

On the other hand, the Iranian presidency said that Rouhani and Putin discussed combating the Corona epidemic and the US sanctions against Tehran as well.

Regarding the US sanctions imposed on his country, Rouhani said, “The United States is still exerting pressure on Iran, despite the outbreak of the Corona virus, and preventing Tehran from obtaining a loan from the International Monetary Fund.”

The Iranian president reiterated describing the US sanctions as “a violation of human rights,” adding that “Western countries talk a lot about human rights, but they behave differently in practical terms.”

Rouhani also accused the United States and Israel of “provocative moves in the region.”

Turning to the Corona pandemic file, Rouhani noted that the world faces today difficult conditions, which make it necessary for friendly countries to intensify their cooperation in combating the epidemic. He called for an exchange of experiences between Russia and Iran in the fight against Corona.
