The Turkish ship “MOZART” arrives in Gabon after it was attacked by pirates who kidnapped 15 of its crew

The Turkish government announced that the “MOZART” cargo ship, which was attacked by pirates, who kidnapped 15 of its crew, yesterday, Saturday, off the coast of Nigeria, arrived in Gabon.

The Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adel Karah Ismailoglu, said, via Twitter, that “MOZART” arrived at the port of Gantel in Gabon at 11:00 Turkish time.

Karah Ismailoglu explained that his country “is doing its best to save its 15 citizens from the grip of pirates and return them safely to the homeland,” and also has mercy on the Azerbaijani citizen, who was killed during the attack on the ship.

Earlier on Sunday, the Turkish ambassador to Gabon, Nilofer Erdem Kaegses, stated that the ship was on its way to Gabon with 3 crew members on board.

On Saturday morning, the cargo ship “MOZART”, sailing under the flag of Liberia, was attacked by pirates in the Strait of Guinea, killing one of the 19 crew members and kidnapping 15 others.

While 3 other people remained on board the ship, which headed to the port of Gantel in Gabon, as Turkey mobilized its diplomatic efforts to rescue the kidnapped.
