Al-Kizbary: we will continue positive engagement in constitutional Committee’s meetings

The Committee of Discussing the Constitution concluded its fifth round at UN Headquarter in Geneva on Friday after several meetings over the week .

Chairman of the national delegation Dr.Ahmad al-Kizbari said that the delegation has presented ideas that express the Syrian people aspirations and it will continue to actively participate in the upcoming rounds.

In a press conference, Al-Kizbari clarified that the delegation presented today at the end of the round a paper that includes a number of basic factors in the context of preparing the constitution’s principles which is suitable for the constitutional reform in terms of the Committee’s mandate, adding that they are waiting the response of the other side during the next round.

He stressed that the delegation will continue to fully participate and effectively during the coming rounds as soon as it is determined in coordination with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen.

Al-Kizbari clarified that the other party was trying to change what was agreed upon in the agenda which is discussing the basic principles of the constitution or the constitutional principles ,and tring to present other proposals that contradict with the agenda on the one hand and depart from the Syrian reality on the other hand, referring that some of those proposals clearly reflect agendas of certain states which are operator of the other party’s members, so those members are held responsible for this behavior in front of all the Syrians.

In a response to journalists, al-Kizbari said that there are many basic principles that constitute a solid basis of the constitution ,the first of which the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and unity ,not to give up any inch of its lands, and not to allow any external interference.

He added that we have presented an important principle regarding the state’s symbols such as the country’s name ,flag, national anthem and formal language, as all these are significant points and we have to agree on as they represent the basis for what can be discussed late.
