The Syrian government raised cement prices by 80% to make the price per ton for the consumer 125,000 pounds, up from 70,000, which is the second rise in the material within four months.
The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection issued Decree No. 2603, which determines the selling prices per ton of bulk and packed cement produced by the factories and companies affiliated with the General Corporation for Cement and Building Materials.
The ministry said that the decision was based on the recommendation of the Economic Committee and the Ministry of Industry letter dated 12/16/2020 containing production costs.
Last August, the ministry raised the price of one bag (50 kilograms) from 3,200 pounds to 3,500 pounds, bringing the price per ton to 70,000 pounds.
The decision will increase the prices of real estate that are already living in an unprecedented situation in the history of Syria in terms of prices and rental allowances, as the average prices of apartments ready for housing are about 50 million pounds, which is about a thousand times more than the average wages estimated in Syria by about 50 Syrian Pounds per month.
* The official price of the dollar: 1256 Syrian pounds.
