The Chinese political leadership congratulated itself on achieving what it described as “very exceptional success” in the war against the emerging corona virus, which began a year before its outbreak from the Chinese city of Wuhan.
The Politburo of the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party of China, during a meeting held on Friday chaired by President Xi Jinping, stressed that the year 2020 was “very unusual in the history of New China, the Chinese nation and mankind,” adding that the Central Committee “played a decisive role in leading all Party members and all the Chinese people overcome the rare risks and challenges this year. ”
The meeting continued in a statement that the ruling party “was able to guide the nation to achieve extremely exceptional success,” noting that “facts have once again proven that leadership is the basis in facing historical turning points and major tests.”
The meeting came just before the visit of a team of WHO experts of the United Nations to China, especially Wuhan, with the aim of conducting an investigation in an attempt to determine the origin of the coronavirus that has killed more than one million and 750 thousand people in the world during the last year, according to the assessments of Johns Hopkins University of America.
China has come under heavy criticism from the administration of US President Donald Trump, which accused Beijing of losing control over the outbreak of the new virus and trying to cover it up.
