Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that peacekeepers in Karabakh will be Russian, and that coordination with Turkey will be via a center in Azerbaijan.
In a statement today, Thursday, Peskov said in response to Ankara’s statements about the participation of Turkish forces in peace operations in Karabakh: “We can assume that there are some differences in understanding … Peacekeepers are the Russian army deployed in the contact area between the two sides (Azerbaijani and Armenian) Interaction with the Turkish army will take place within the framework of a monitoring center on the territory of Azerbaijan.
He stressed that “this issue was not discussed.”
The Kremlin spokesman added that Moscow has confirmed more than once that the participation of Turkish forces in the peace processes in Karabakh, “is not only a topic for discussion between Moscow and Ankara, but must be agreed upon by Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
In turn, the Russian Foreign Minister said in a statement today, Thursday, that the Turkish observers will not be present in Karabakh, and that the work of the Russian and Turkish observers will be remotely using drones.
