Lavrov: The West’s refusal to exclude humanitarian supplies from sanctions deprives countries of access to medicines

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries, especially the United States, on others deprive countries like Syria, Iran and the DPRK of access to medicine and special protection equipment in light of the spread of the Corona epidemic in the world.

The Russian news agency TASS reported that Lavrov showed during a diplomatic meeting via video that the imposition of these illegal and unilateral measures in the midst of this epidemic greatly affects the efforts of a group of countries including Syria, Iran and the DPRK to tackle the Corona epidemic, noting that “these countries cannot buy medicines Special protection equipment because Western countries, the first of which is the United States, vehemently rejected a proposal to declare a humanitarian pause and exclude supplies necessary to fight the epidemic from any sanctions.

In a separate context, Lavrov stressed that the US allegations that Russia had violated the open skies agreement were unfounded and indicated that Washington had already decided to withdraw from the bilateral agreement.

Lavrov said that, as was the case with the Treaty on the disposal of medium and short-range missiles, Americans begin to promote and publicize the idea that Russia is the one who violates the open skies agreement, although Washington does not provide hard facts and objective reasons for this.

It is noteworthy that the 1992 Open Skies Treaty allows signatories, including the United States and Russia, to take unarmed reconnaissance flights over the territory of other countries to collect data on military activities.
