Hifter announces the abolition of the political agreement in response to the will of the people

Field Marshal Khalifa Hifter, commander of the Libyan National Army, announced today, Monday, the abolition of the political agreement for a settlement in his country, considering that it has become part of the past.

Haftar said in a speech addressed to the Libyan people: “Protecting the rights of the Libyan people will be one of the priorities of the army, which will be at the disposal of the people.”

He added: “We accept the Libyan people’s authorization of our will, and we, in turn, will complete the march of victory and liberate the country from terrorism.”

He stressed that “despite the weight of trust, we declare our acceptance of the will of the people and accept its mandate for us to defend their rights.”

Libya is witnessing two governments contesting the country’s legitimacy, namely the internationally recognized government of National Accord in Tripoli headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, and an interim government based in the eastern city of Tobruk, which has support from Field Marshal Khalifa Hifter, whose forces have sought since last April, to control Libyan capital.
