Jordan … owners of transport vehicles in Ramtha demand the reopening of the borders with Syria

Dozens of drivers and owners of vehicles operating on the Ramtha line, Syria, staged a sit-in on the old Ramtha border road, to demand the reopening of the Jordanian-Syrian border, and the establishment of an arena for trade exchange between the two sides.

The protesters demanded that they be exempted from the licensing fees charged by the Public Security Directorate and the Land Transport Sector Regulatory Authority, noting that the merchants on the Ramtha line had not worked during the past period since the start of the Corona pandemic.

The protesters indicated that the owners of the vehicles have become financially distressed and are being pursued by banks to pay their installments, stressing that the situation has become intolerable in light of the continued closure of the borders for more than 8 months.

They emphasized that the government is calling on them to write off some vehicles that are more than 15 years old, and they are demanding an increase in the vehicle’s life for an additional year after the owners have stopped working.

They stressed their inability to fulfill the obligation of their families in light of the economic conditions they are experiencing with the Corona pandemic.
