Zhao Lijiang, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, announced today that Russia and China should take joint measures to ensure security on their borders and stop attempts to cross them illegally.
Commenting on the situation on the border between his country and Russia, Zhao Lijiang said: “According to the Russian-Chinese agreements on the border control mechanism, relevant departments and local governments of the two countries should take joint measures to prevent illegal border crossing and carry out illegal activities in border areas. ”
He stressed that ensuring security at the border is the responsibility of both parties.
After registering a rise in the number of casualties among arrivals from abroad, the local Chinese authorities announced in the northeastern city of Suifin, which borders Russia, on Sunday that it had strengthened border controls as part of measures to prevent new cases of corona from entering the country.
Earlier, Chinese local media reported that the authorities of Heilongjiang Province, bordering Russia, had promised local residents a reward of three to five thousand yuan (about 425 dollars) to anyone who provided information on the illegal crossing of the Chinese border, in an attempt to prevent the virus from spreading again.
However, it has not been determined whether these transits occurred.
Commenting on these reports, the Russian Consulate General informed the Novosti News Agency that the participation of the local population in combating violators is not related to the illegal crossing of the Russian-Chinese borders in Heilongjiang Province alone, but is carried out as part of a nationwide campaign to tighten order on the country’s borders, in Time of the Corona outbreak.
Heilongjiang Province is located along the border of Russia. The total length of the borders is more than 3 thousand km.
Earlier, the Russian Consulate General in Harbin stated that all land border crossings on the Russian-Chinese border are still closed to passenger traffic at this time.
