IRGC Commander: Trump’s Assad Assassination Threat Means End of US Political Chapter

The US president says that he wanted to assassinate the Syrian president which means the end of the political chapter of a power,” General Salami said, addressing a ceremony to deliver 188 new home-made drones and helicopters to the IRGC Navy in the port city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday.

He added that the US has not given up its expansionist strategy and is seeking to impose its will on other countries, which itself brings new enemies and shows that its leaders lack political wisdom and are passive.

General Salami referred to the growing hatred of the world nations for the US, saying that this hatred increased after Washington’s attempts to bond the rulers of the reactionary regimes in the region with the Zionists.

“Can the US officials traffic alone in one of the streets of the Islamic states? They cannot because all nations are against them,” he added.

General Salami said that despite all pressures, Iran is standing and will grow more powerful each day, adding that the Islamic Revolution has influenced nations in many regions from the Eastern parts of the Mediterranean to North Africa, which is a source of power.

Elsewhere, he underlined that the IRGC Navy is now an air-based marine power which is in possession of a combination of drones, helicopters and waterborne aircraft as well as submarines.

The US president said his then-secretary of defense, Jim Mattis, opposed the assassination of Al-Assad in 2017.

Syria last Wednesday hit back at Trump and likened the United States to a “rogue state” after the US president said he wanted to assassinate Al-Assad.

“Trump’s admission of such a step confirms that the US administration is a rogue … state,” Syria’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

“It pursues the same tactics as terrorist groups such as murder and assassination,” it said, a day after Trump made the remarks to the morning show Fox & Friends.
