The head of forensic medicine at Damascus University, Hussein Nofal, criticized the procedures followed for burial of deaths from the Corona virus by the burial office.
According to the agency, “The Times of Levant”, Nawfal said: “The procedures are an inadequate ruling, and the procedures for dealing with the bodies should be the same as the measures taken in the intensive care, and the best way to deal with the bodies is cremation, because the virus is not known and is the subject of scientific research.”
Nawfal pointed out that some countries have already resorted to cremating the bodies of the deceased after their infection with the virus to ensure its final elimination, “because scientifically after death there are cells that are not subject to physiological death, and the virus may be working in those cells”, but he explained that cremation in Syria A subject that society does not accept because of customs, traditions, and religious teachings.
He also stressed that “if the cremation does not take place, the deceased must be buried without washing and covered with two linen sheets moistened with chlorine and then a plastic layer, and buried at depths of more than a meter and a half under the ground, and in special burials so that the grave does not open later to download another body and the virus spreads again “.
He continued: “It is clear that the increase in deaths in Damascus and its countryside is the result of respiratory symptoms, but there is no clear picture of the extent of the virus in the country like other countries, because there are no public smears, and because whoever goes to hospitals is either taken from a smear or asked to return home. And the application of quarantine, and we cannot know that the deaths that occur are the result of corona or other issues. ”
In turn, the director of the burial office, Firas Ibrahim, confirmed that an increase in the number of deaths since July 10 due to corona virus or deaths due to virus-like symptoms has not been confirmed.
