The International Criminal Court on Thursday criticized a decree of US President Donald Trump allowing his administration to impose sanctions on court officials.
The court, based in the Dutch city of The Hague, in a statement, expressed its deep dissatisfaction with Trump‘s decision, noting that it carries with it threats and coercion, and it represents “an unacceptable attempt to interfere with the rule of law.”
She added that there is talk of the latest attack in the “unprecedented series of attacks” on the court.
Trump had allowed his administration to impose economic sanctions and prevent representatives of the International Criminal Court from entering the United States, in response to the court’s decision to allow an investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity in Afghanistan to be opened, a decision the court made last March despite Washington’s opposition.
