Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed today that finding a solution to the crisis in Syria is through a political process led by the Syrians themselves in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
A statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to what Russia Today reported, said that Lavrov and Guterres exchanged views during the phone call on the situation in Syria and stressed the need to ensure security and stability and preserve the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of the Syrian territories, pointing to the danger of terrorist practices in Syria against the background of the HIV pandemic. The statement pointed out that Lavrov and Guterres discussed in detail the activation of humanitarian assistance for all Syrians without any discrimination, politicization or preconditions, especially in light of the special importance of applying the call of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to stop unilateral economic coercive sanctions on Syria that impede the supply of medicines and medical equipment and what It is caused by a shortage of basic supplies and its impact on the situation in Syria.
An official source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants confirmed last Thursday that the European Union’s decision to renew the coercive measures imposed on Syria reveals the falsehood of the positions and statements of its officials and exposes the hypocrisy that has become an essential feature of European policies, indicating that these sanctions are a flagrant violation of the most basic human rights and international humanitarian law and a crime against humanity in all meaning of the word.
