Merkel: Germany has passed the first stage of the pandemic and we can ease the restrictions

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced that her country has passed the first stage of the Corona virus pandemic amid a slowdown in its spread, which could reduce the restrictive measures.

“We have passed the first stage of the pandemic, but we must understand that we are still, though, at the beginning of the path, we will deal with this virus for a long time,” Merkel said, at a press conference held today Wednesday.

“We reached the point where the stated goal of slowing the spread of the virus was achieved, and we were able to protect our health care system … which gives the possibility to research and coordinate subsequent measures to ease restrictions,” Merkel added.

The German chancellor explained that the number of new registered infections with the new Corona virus does not exceed the level of 1000 cases over several days, which facilitates monitoring the communications network for patients.

Merkel agreed with the heads of government of 16 German states on the need to take all measures to prevent the emergence of any outbreaks of local levels and spread in the country.

She said: “We are taking a bold path … We can act with some boldness, but we must remain careful.”

She stated that the authorities had taken a decision to keep the restrictive measures until June 5, but had agreed to relax them, which included allowing two family members to meet with opening more shops, while maintaining the necessity to adhere to social separation and to wear medical masks in public places.

Germany is the sixth largest outpost of the Corona virus pandemic in the world, with 167,372 confirmed infections recorded in the country so far, but the death rate is low compared to most other affected countries, and this outcome is 6993 cases.
