Members of the US Congress threaten to punish Jordan if he does not surrender Ahlam al-Tamimi

Seven Republican members of Congress warned Jordan that the United States might move to impose sanctions on Amman, unless it offered to extradite the Jordanian-Palestinian citizen Ahlam Al-Tamimi to Washington.

The newspaper, “Haaretz,” that the seven members last April 30 sent a warning message to Jordan’s ambassador to Washington, and published by the pro-Israel political pressure EMET.

The newspaper pointed out that the importance of this message lies in the fact that its author is Republican Congressman Greg Stiop, for the state of Florida, and signed by members of Congress who are famous for their close ties to the Trump administration.

Al-Tamimi, who holds both Palestinian and Jordanian nationalities, was released in a 2011 deal, which Israel accuses of masterminding the bombing of a pizzeria in Jerusalem, while a Jordanian court ruling was issued years ago that would not hand it over to the United States.

The United States has pressed for al-Tamimi to be deported for years, but the law that allows the US State Department to use US support in lobbying for deportation requests was not enforced until late last year.
