“Global Health” is silent after Trump’s threat and promises

The World Health Organization criticized on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump‘s plan to suspend the contributions of the United States government to its budget in light of the crisis of the outbreak of the Corona virus “emerging Covid-19“.

“We are still facing an acute phase of the pandemic, and this time is not a good time to cut funding,” he said, during a press briefing on Wednesday, in response to a question about Trump‘s recent comments on the matter.

For his part, the chief adviser to the Secretary-General of the Organization, Bruce Aylward, defended the organization’s relations with China, and rejected Trump’s accusations of biasing “global health” to Beijing.

The official pointed out that cooperation with China in order to “reach everything possible” in the early stages of the pandemic was of critical importance in order to study the new virus that started spreading in the world from the Chinese city of Wuhan in late December.

He continued: “This is what we did with every other affected country like Spain, and there was nothing exceptional in our dealings with China.”

Aylward also defended the recommendations made by the organization to the US administration to leave the borders open with China (which drew severe criticism from Trump), noting that the Chinese authorities have been working diligently to identify all cases and their list of contacts in order to prevent the spread of the virus outside the country’s borders.
