Don’t underestimate China, Corona, a new city facing Wuhan’s fate

Chinese local media reported that the city of Suifenhe in Heilongjiang Province imposed restrictions on the movement of people today, similar to what happened in Wuhan, after the recent high number of HIV infections.

According to the media, the number of infections in the northern Heilongjiang Province increased to 25 in one day, as a result of the arrival of infected Chinese travelers.

China’s central television station CCTV said that residents should stay at home, and one member of each family is allowed to leave once every three days to purchase the necessary needs, but must return on the same day.

The city of Jiaochu in east China’s Shandong Province has also raised, on its official website, the risk level of corona virus from low to medium, without giving further details.

A county in central China with a population of about 600,000 people has started partial general isolation since April 1, after several new cases were discovered, including at least two without symptoms.

The Chinese city of Wuhan, from which the outbreak of the Corona virus epidemic began, ended on Wednesday a general isolation that lasted for more than two months after the number of deaths decreased dramatically, as it reached three cases within 21 days.

Wuhan, home to 11 million people, was closed by the Chinese authorities at the end of January to combat the spread of the virus. More than 50,000 people in the city were infected with the virus, which also killed more than 2,500 people there, which is equivalent to about 80 percent of the death toll on the Chinese mainland overall, according to official figures.

The virus then turned into a global pandemic, causing more than 1.4 million infections, 82,000 deaths in the world, and causing turmoil in the global economy after governments imposed widespread restrictions to curb the spread of the disease.

The total number of confirmed cases of the virus on the Chinese mainland is 81,802, including 3333 deaths as of Tuesday.
