Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei called for the start of uranium enrichment “from today,” after Tehran announced its rejection of a European proposal to hold an informal meeting with 4 + 1 countries with the participation of the United States.
His Arabic-speaking Twitter account posted a video clip in which he spoke, saying: “On the day that oil runs out, nuclear energy that is produced more cleanly and at less cost will become commonplace.”
He added, “Enrichment cannot start at that time … We have to start from today, and we have to start from now in order to be ready and have this ability.”
He continued, “The arrogant Westerners want Iran to need them on the day when it needs nuclear energy, in order to be able to impose their conditions, control them and blackmail them.”
The spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in Parliament, Abul Fadl Amami, quoted the head of the Iranian Nuclear Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, as saying, “Tehran has begun installing new centrifuges of the IR2 and IR6 generation at the Fordo nuclear site.”
He pointed out that Salehi, during the meeting, pointed out that “the Iranian Nuclear Energy Organization has commissioned the production of 120 kg of uranium enriched by 20% within one year, and accordingly, 25 kg of the total amount has been produced so far.”
