Borisov: Work underway to prepare long-term agreement, expand cooperation with Syria

Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Yury Borisov, affirmed his country’s continuous work to boost cooperation with Syria and support its people in addition to preparing a long-term strategic agreement to expand economic and trade cooperation between Russia and Syria.

“I conveyed to President Bashar al-Assad the congratulations and appreciation of President Vladimir Putin after the major victory of the Presidential election in Syria which expresses the people’s confidence in their elected president,” Borisov said in press statements along with Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam prior to his departure at Damascus International Airport.

He described his meeting with President al-Assad as constructive and fruitful that will lead to more cooperation.

As for the long-term strategic agreement, Borisov said that preparations are underway to expand cooperation between the two countries, adding that this cooperation will cover domains of economy, trade, industry and energy.

“Russia does its best to help the Syrian people, particularly during the difficult circumstances in light of the blockade and the western sanctions,” Borisov said.

Minister Azzam, for his part, affirmed that the joint projects between the two countries are strategic that keep the interests of the two peoples.
