On March 31st, former German ambassador to Ankara Martin Erdman said that the President of the Turkish regime, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is stealing Turkey’s future and suppressing freedoms.
In an interview with the German newspaper Tages Spiegel, Erdmann said: “Turkey is increasingly exposed to systematic plunder of the future by the authoritarian regime. There are fewer and fewer freedoms in many areas, but there are hardly any freedoms, we are dealing with an authoritarian regime.”
Erdman said that Turkey, under Erdogan’s authoritarian rule, is increasingly moving away from the Copenhagen criteria for joining the European Union to a degree that could not be ignored.
Since assuming the presidency of the regime in Turkey, Erdogan has been working to transform Turkey into a one-man state, ending all manifestations of democracy, targeting opponents with imprisonment, restrictions and confiscation of freedoms.
