European MPs: The OPCW has lost its credibility

Member of the European Parliament for Ireland Clare Daly has stressed that the credibility and independency of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) should be questioned due to the huge argument it caused regarding the alleged chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma, particularly after some key OPCW experts have uncovered that the conclusions of their investigations, which proved that there was no evidence of a chemical attack in Douma, have been manipulated.

In March 2020, a leak by an OPCW official unveiled the involvement of the OPCW’s administration in launching a shameful campaign against two veteran OPCW inspectors who proved that the OPCW’s report on this alleged chemical attack was not credible and it aimed at accusing the Syrian Arab Army of the attack, thereby justifying the US-British-French aggression on Syria.

During a parliamentary session held for questioning the OPCW’s Director Fernando Arias Gonzales, Daly said that this attack on the inspectors and the argument around the alleged Douma attack have led the OPCW to lose its credibility which is an important element of its work.

She called on the OPCW director to stop ignoring the information submitted by some investigators which uncovered the falsification of the OPCW’s report, stressing that ignoring such information and the attempt to harm the reputation of the experts won’t change the fact that the OPCW’s work should be questioned.

Previously, the Wikileaks website published four OPCW documents that ruled out the use of Chlorine gas in Syria’s Douma.

On her part, US Congress member Tulsi Gabbard said that the OPCW officials’ manipulating of the first report of investigators, who visited Syria and concluded the there was no evidence about a chemical attack in Douma, has endangered the reputation and credibility of the OPCW as well as its past and future reports.

Mike Wallace, a European MP, talked about the scandals of the forged preliminary reports issued by the OPCW on the alleged chemical incident, in addition to the leaks which proved that the reports were manipulated by the Organization’s inspectors and experts.

He said that the leaks showed that the OPCW’s inspectors reached some conclusions which are different from the OPCW’s claims that blamed the Syrian government for the alleged attack which was proved to be fabricated with the help of the US and UK-funded “White Helmets” terrorist organization.

Wallace added that the original fact-finding team which conducted investigation into the Douma alleged chemical attack concluded that there was no tangible evidence about this attack, but this conclusion has been transformed into a massively forged narrative that contained lies and unproved claims against Syria.
