South Korea and its northern neighbor are preparing to jointly bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympics, although the International Olympic Committee has recognized the advantage of Australia’s Brisbane file.
The government of the South Korean capital, Seoul, said today, Thursday, that it had submitted a proposal on the vision and concept of the joint hosting file, to a committee of the International Olympic Committee, which is responsible for the files of the candidate cities to host the next Olympic Games.
Seoul and the South Korean government expressed their regret at the “sudden decision” of the International Olympic Committee, preferring the Brisbane file, but with continuing efforts to host the Olympics.
Seoul indicated that the joint file with Pyongyang will achieve the vision of the International Olympic Committee to reach world peace through sport, and the South Korean government’s long-term desire for peace and harmony on the Korean Peninsula.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed to pursue a joint bid for the two Koreas to host the Olympic Games during their meeting in Pyongyang in 2018, but relations between the two neighbors have returned to tension since 2019.
