Sabbagh: Aggressive countries aim to undermine Syria’s national options

Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh has confirmed that, ten years ago, some countries launched a terrorist war against Syria to undermine its national options, its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity through terrorist tools.

Sabbagh said that the heroics of the Syrian Arab Army, its sacrifices and the steadfastness of the Syrian people have foiled these aggressive designs.

During a session of the Security Council on March 15th via video, Sabbagh said that some countries, led by the United States, Britain and France, have launched this aggressive, multifaceted and unprecedented war against Syria to undermine its national options.

Sabbagh said that during the past ten years these countries have made every effort to incite the Syrians against each other and spread chaos that they considered creative and spent huge sums of money to inflame and prolong the crisis in order to serve the goals of these countries in destabilizing the security and stability of Syria.

Sabbagh added that there is another attempt by these countries to take advantage of the ten years since the start of the crisis to continue incitement against the Syrian state.

Sabbagh said that the great irony is that these countries have used these terrorists as a pretext to form an illegal international coalition to combat terrorism based on a distorted interpretation of the text of Article 51 of the UN Charter.

Sabbagh said that these terrorist organizations aim to weaken the capabilities of the Syrian Arab Army, which is actually confronting the ISIS terrorist organization and other organizations.

Sabbagh added these terrorist organizations want to weaken the capabilities of the Syrian state by destroying civilian facilities such as schools, hospitals, power stations, bridges and dams, which results in human suffering.
