The Times: The Biden administration is studying the possibility of easing sanctions against Iran

The “Times” newspaper reported that US President Joe Biden’s administration is studying the possibility of easing the sanctions imposed on Iran, in an effort to “revive” the nuclear deal.

The newspaper said that “despite the Biden administration’s insistence that it wants to sit first at the negotiating table, there are indications that the easing of sanctions is not excluded.”

The newspaper quoted an informed source in the US National Security Agency that “the easing of sanctions is definitely on the way. Not today or tomorrow. But it is on the way.”

Earlier, “Bloomberg” reported that the Biden administration is studying several options on how to ease Iran’s financial situation, without lifting the economic sanctions imposed on it.

And the European Union spokesman, Peter Stano, had said earlier that the European Union was conducting intensive consultations on the possibility of holding an informal meeting on the Iranian nuclear deal with the participation of the United States.

In turn, the United States announced its interest in conducting negotiations with Iran under the supervision of the European Union, with the participation of the “six” international mediators, including Moscow and Beijing.

In response to Washington’s statement, Tehran announced that the “six” no longer existed after the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal, and that there were only five mediators left, and demanded that sanctions against Iran be lifted.

It should be noted that the Iranian nuclear agreement (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), which was concluded by the six countries (Britain, Germany, China, Russia, the United States and France) and Iran in 2015, provides for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran, in exchange for restricting Iran’s nuclear program as a guarantor of Iran’s non-possession of weapons. Nuclear. In May 2018, the United States announced its withdrawal from this agreement and reinstated severe sanctions against Tehran.
