Iran and Russia have agreed to jointly produce the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V. Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said this on Wednesday at a ceremony marking the 42nd anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which is being held online.
“Our negotiations for the joint production [of Sputnik V] have been completed, and we will soon witness the production of this vaccine in Iran,” he said.
Jalali recalled that after Tehran and Moscow signed an agreement to purchase the Sputnik V vaccine, the first batch was sent to Iran. “The second batch will be delivered in two days,” he informed.
As Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov noted in turn, the interaction between the health ministries and relevant specialized structures engaged in fighting the new coronavirus infection is a very important topic in the dialogue between the two countries.
“As you heard, the first batch of vaccines has already arrived in Tehran [on February 4]. New shipments are being prepared. And we are sure that the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine will be properly evaluated by our Iranian friends and that by joint efforts we will be able to defeat the pandemic,” the diplomat stressed.
