An official source denies to RT news of a secret meeting between Putin’s envoy and Assad in Damascus

A Russian official source denied to RT Arabic the validity of the media allegations that the envoy of the Russian President for the Syrian settlement, Alexander Lavrentiev, held a secret meeting in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The source told RT Arabic today, Wednesday, that Lavrentiev participated in the meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva, then returned to Russia directly, indicating that the relations between Moscow and Damascus “do not require confidentiality.”

The Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported that Alexander Lavrentiev told a number of his Western and regional interlocutors that he and “senior generals” made a secret visit to Damascus at the end of last week, and met President Bashar Al-Assad.
