Yediot Aharonot: Soha Arafat denies Israel’s involvement in the poisoning of Abu Ammar

The Israeli newspaper “Yediot Aharonot” quoted Suha Arafat, the widow of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, as saying that her husband “Abu Ammar was definitely poisoned, but not by Israel.”

She indicated that everyone thought that “Israel is responsible for his assassination,” but she does not believe that this is true, because “the Palestinians are the neighbors of the Israelis, and there is also no evidence for that,” adding: “One of the Palestinians is responsible for the assassination of Arafat.”

It stated that it “supports the peace process and supports the recent normalization agreements between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco,” stressing that it “has good relations with Israeli personalities.”

Arafat considered that “the second intifada was a big mistake and that she does not know who persuaded her husband to enter a new intifada even though he joined the peace process, and that she asked her husband to stop the intifada, but he refused.”

She stressed that the late leader believed that “Israeli civilians should not be killed,” noting that she wanted to send a message to the Israelis that “Yasser Arafat was a good person.”

She pointed out that Arafat “had good relations with the intelligence services of most countries of the world, and that European authorities always warned him against the assassination, and that the world powers did not give the green light to assassinate him.”

And she believed that “her late husband was receiving international protection despite the repeated assassination attempts that he was subjected to, as international bodies preferred Arafat over other Palestinian officials.”
