Two irrigation canals, damaged by terrorism, rehabilitated in Homs countryside

Homs Water Resources Directorate had begun at the beginning of the current year works of rehabilitation of the two irrigation canals which have been damaged due to terrorism in Zaita and Jousiyya in Homs countryside to prepare them before the irrigation season of the agricultural lands which will start next May.

In a statement to SANA, Director of the Directorate Eng. Ismael Ismael said that the directorate has started the rehabilitation works of the two irrigation canals in Zaita and Jousiyya in a way that contributes to the irrigation of about 6,800 hectares of the agricultural lands during this season.

Eng. Ismael indicated that Jousiyya canal irrigates the areas in Jousiyya, al-Ziraa, al-Qusair and al-Ammar as it has 13 branches which headed towards the agricultural lands to irrigate about 3,800 hectares of the aforementioned areas, while Zaita canal irrigates the villages west of the Orontes River, like Zaita and al-Hamam.

He stressed that these irrigated areas help to improve the living condition of the farmers, provide job opportunities and the return of the displaced people to their villages and lands.
