Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous said that seven oil tankers bound for Syria were intercepted, and that two of them were “targeted” in the Red Sea
During a presentation on the performance of his government during the past period before the Syrian People’s Assembly (Parliament), Arnous added that the targeting of the two tankers in the Red Sea led to “the delay of their arrival for more than a month, and as a result of which the Banias refinery stopped production and a shortage in the quantities of oil derivatives required to meet the country’s needs. Arnous did not specify who targeted the tankers.
It is noteworthy that a number of pages and the media circulated last October a news published by a Syrian media website specialized in economics, in which it said that the American forces had targeted an oil tanker in the Mediterranean that was heading to Syria, and attributed the news to a “source in the Syrian Oil Ministry.”
The news sparked at the time several reactions, most of them questioning its credibility, before the site deleted the news, and without the Oil Ministry issuing any comment.
