Greece asserts that there will be no talks with Turkey as long as the drilling ship remains in disputed waters

A Greek government spokesman said, Tuesday, that his country will not participate in exploratory talks with Turkey as long as the Turkish exploration vessel “Oroch Rais” remains in the waters of the continental shelf of Greece.

Spokesman “Stelios Petsas” added in a radio interview: “We will not conduct exploratory contacts with Turkey as long as the Oroch Rice ship is in the region.”

Greece said on Monday that Ankara’s decision to send the ship to an area near the Greek island of “Kastelorizo” near the Turkish coast represented a “major escalation” and “a direct threat to peace in the region.”

Turkey withdrew the ship from the disputed waters in the eastern Mediterranean last month to “allow room for diplomacy” before a European Union summit discussed imposing sanctions on Turkey.
