The Jordanian army reveals the causes of the Zarqa explosion

The Jordanian army revealed, in a statement on Friday, the reasons that led to a huge explosion inside one of its ammunition depots in the Zarqa Governorate early in the morning

The Jordanian army said in a statement: “An explosion took place at dawn today, Friday, in an old mortar munitions depot that is under dismantling in the Al-Tafih area near the city of Zarqa, which is located in an isolated and uninhabited area.”

The statement stated that the explosion “was caused by very high temperatures, which led to a reaction in the chemical substance inside one of the mortar fillings that led to the explosion.”

The statement called on the media and citizens not to heed the rumors circulated by some media and social networking sites about the causes of the explosion, which occurred at dawn on Friday.

Earlier on Friday, the Jordanian government issued a statement by the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Al-Adaileh, in which he said that the explosion occurred in a warehouse containing unusable mortar bombs belonging to the armed forces east of the city of Zarqa.

In a statement published by the official “Petra” news agency, Al-Adayleh added that initial investigations indicated that the explosion was caused by an electrical short circuit in warehouses located in an isolated and uninhabited area, which are subject to direct surveillance by cameras.
