The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed, in a statement, that Lavrov held a meeting today, Monday, with the head of the Executive Body of the “Syrian Democratic Council”, Ilham Ahmed, and the Secretary-General of the Syrian “People’s Will” party, Qadri Jamil, during which “a detailed discussion of urgent issues went on the Syrian settlement in order to reach a comprehensive agreement between the parties in Syria based on Resolution 2254 of the United Nations Security Council.
Lavrov stressed, according to the statement, “Russia’s steadfast readiness to continue to contribute to the passage of a comprehensive and constructive dialogue between the Syrian parties in the interest of restoring and strengthening Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity as soon as possible, while creating appropriate conditions for harmonious coexistence and progress for all religious and ethnic components in the Syrian society.”
