Washington: We will increase the pressure on companies working with the Venezuelan authorities

The nominee for the position of US ambassador to Venezuela, James Story, announced that the United States will increase the pressure on companies that work with the government of President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

“We have forced the negative players in Venezuela to pay a higher price for their actions,” the candidate for ambassador said during a US Senate hearing on Thursday. We will continue to study other possibilities in this regard”

Storey expressed his concern about the transfer of gold from Venezuela to Iran and fuel supplies to Cuba, noting that “the Venezuelan people will need those resources. I think that we must study all possibilities for dealing with companies … just as we did with “Rosneft”, referring to the imposition of sanctions on one of the companies affiliated with the Russian oil giant, operating in Venezuela.

He also indicated that the US authorities are working with partners to search for assets that Washington believes Venezuelan officials have withdrawn from the country, noting that “these resources will be needed by a democratic or transitional government in Venezuela to rebuild institutions.”

It is noteworthy that the United States has imposed sanctions on many Venezuelan officials and government agencies. Washington accuses senior Venezuelan officials, including President Nicolas Maduro, of corruption, “undermining democracy” in Venezuela and the drug trade.
