The Public Prosecution Office of Cassation refers the detainees in the Beirut bombing to the military judiciary until a judicial investigator is appointed

The Public Prosecution Office of the Cassation in Lebanon requested that the detainees be deposited in the Beirut bombing, in order to refer them to the military court pending the appointment of a criminal investigation.

Today, Tuesday, the prosecution gave the necessary instructions to deposit the detainees in order to refer them to the First Military Investigation Judge to issue arrest warrants, pending the appointment of a forensic investigator who would put his hand on the file.

Provided that the Public Prosecution Office of Cassation shall pursue the preliminary investigation with the rest of the suspects and witnesses, and transfer the papers, respectively, to the judicial investigator.

Earlier, the Public Prosecutor, Judge Ghassan El-Khoury, began the investigation sessions in Beirut port explosion, with the detainees, the accused and many security personnel, against the background of the explosion.

And local media reported that during the interrogation sessions, Al-Khoury listened to the statement of the Director General of the State Security Service, Major General Tony Saliba, at the Palace of Justice in Beirut.

The Lebanese authorities have arrested 16 people as part of the investigation into the explosion of Beirut port.

The acting government commissioner to the military court, Judge Fadi Akiki, recently stated that the authorities have so far questioned more than 18 officials from the port and customs administration and individuals who were assigned tasks related to the maintenance of the warehouse in which the high explosive materials that caused the disaster were deposited.

He added that 16 people are currently arrested pending investigation, in addition to others left under investigation.
