Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, and Jordan expressed their solidarity with Iraq and called on Turkey to stop its violations against the country, according to Iraq’s state news agency.
The ministers of each of the four Arab countries expressed the urgency for Turkey to immediately cease its military operations on Iraqi land.
Two high-ranking Iraqi officers were killed Tuesday in what the army said was a “blatant Turkish drone attack” in the autonomous Kurdish region, where Ankara has for weeks been raiding militant positions.
The strike killed two border guard battalion commanders and the driver of their vehicle, the army said in a statement.
It is the first time members of the regular Iraqi forces have been killed since Turkey launched a cross-border ground and air operation in mid-June against Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) rebels in the mountainous terrain of northern Iraq.
Kuwait’s foreign minister Ahmad Nasser al-Sabah said on Thursday that his country stands by the measures Iraq will take to preserve its security and stability.
Kuwait condemns Turkey’s interference in Iraq and rejects all foreign aggressions, he said.
