Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Belarus in a phone call with French leader Emmanuel Macron.
Putin stressed the inadmissibility of interference in the republic’s internal affairs and putting pressure on the Belarusian leadership. Both sides expressed interest in the soonest settlement of the problems that have arisen, the Kremlin noted.
After that, they exchanged views on the Libyan crisis.
Protest actions in Belarus began after the CEC announced the results of the presidential elections. According to them, the victory was once again won by Alexander Lukashenko, who garnered over 80% of the votes. Thousands of people took to the streets to protest the results of what they believe to be a ‘rigged election.’ In the early days, the demonstrations were accompanied by crackdowns. There are at least two known victims.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel had called Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the developments in Belarus following the presidential election won by Alexander Lukashenko.
