Moscow: Agreement between SDF militia and American firm to steal Syrian oil is part of Washington’s violations of Syria’s sovereignty, international law

MOSCOW, (ST)- The Russian Foreign Ministry has stressed that the deal signed between the US-backed Kurdish militia called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and an American firm to steal Syrian oil is part of Washington’s violations of Syria’s sovereignty over its territories and of the rules of international law.

In a statement published on its website, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that within the framework of the agreement, the American side will provide two mobile oil refineries allegedly to reduce the damage that will be caused to the surrounding environment due to oil spills.

“We believe that there are repeated violations by Washington of the rules of international law and international humanitarian law and its obligations being an occupying state .. Moreover, the American administration once again proves its disrespect for the UN Charter as well as the resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly that provide for respecting the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, a UN member state, ” the ministry’s statement added.

The statement affirmed that “the Americans are not satisfied with their illegal occupation of Syrian areas, they also participate in looting and plundering Syria’s natural resources and in trading with these resources, regardless of the fact that these resources belong to the Syrian people.”

The statement pointed out that these looting acts are done while the United States is tightening the unilateral sanctions which have been imposed on Syria without the permission of the UN Security Council and which exclude the areas that are not under the control of the Syrian government.

“It is known that these sanctions impede the supply of fuel and electricity to the Syrians and create shortage in energy resources, not to mention their role in hindering the delivery of medicines and vital medical equipment to Syria under the Corona virus pandemic crisis,” the statement made it clear.

It indicated that “the oil derivatives extracted in the eastern Euphrates region and the revenues from the illicit trafficking of oil never go to the locals in this Syrian region .. In addition, media outlets and study centers always publish information about demonstrations by citizens in this region protesting against the illegal presence of the United States and the repressive acts of the US-backed SDF militia.” It pointed out that the US support for this militia doesn’t only create internal tension, it also poses a grave threat to regional security and stability.

The statement expressed Russia’s great concern and regret over these arbitrary and contradictory acts, as well as over the lack of necessary reaction by the international community towards these acts.

Syria has strongly condemned the deal signed between SDF and an American oil firm to steal Syrian oil, stressing that this agreement is null and void and has no legal basis.
