Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and army leaders have made an inspection tour of the military units stationed on the borders with Greece and Bulgaria.
The “Anatolia” agency reported that Akar arrived on Thursday in the state of Edirne (northwest), accompanied by Chief of Staff Yashar Guler, the commanders of the ground forces Umit Dundar, the air force Hasan Kujuk Ak Yuz, and the navy Adnan Ozbal.
He added that the governor of Edirne, the commander of the first army, and other officials were receiving Akar and the army commanders in the command of the 54th infantry brigade mechanic.
Akar‘s visit to the border region comes amid continuing tension between Ankara and Athens due to disputes over the demarcation of the maritime border between the two countries, and Turkey‘s intention to carry out exploration operations in waters near Cyprus.
