Health Minister: spread of Coronavirus pandemic warns of wider outbreak if citizens don’t commit to preventive measures

Health Minister, Nizar Yaziji, affirmed on Monday that the increase of the local toll of Corona virus cases has exceeded to 500 cases and the expansion of the disease might warn of wider outbreak in case of non-commitment to individual and social preventative measures.

Yaziji said in a press conference at that Syria witnessed a remarkable increase in the number of infections in the last two weeks , pointing out that with assertions of world Health Organization that there is always risk occurrence of new corona virus cases , the continuation of economic and service activities cannot be stopped because it may leave destructive impacts on the individual and society, thus committing to precautionary measures is the basic factor in preventing the spread of the virus.

He affirmed that the medical teams have worked to observe any suspected cases and followed up the confirmed cases, imposing partial lockdown in cases that require to take measures, as the case in Ras al-Maara in Damascus countryside and Jdaydat al-Fadle.

As for the increasing number of deaths of unknown reasons, the Minister clarified that it might be due to not reporting about home-treated sick cases and being late to demand the consultation.

Yaziji noted that the return process of the stranded Syrian citizens abroad will gradually continue and the time of opening the airports is being studied.

The Minister said that Syria, in the first months of the pandemic, has managed to maintain epidemiological stability by applying precautionary measures in different sectors and reaching zero local infections, but with the gradual lifting of these measures and the start of the return of citizens who were stranded abroad, new cases returned to occur that witnessed remarkable increase in the last two weeks.

On the other hand, the recovered cases increase out of the total number of infections recorded in Syria according to Minister Yaziji who confirmed the ministry’s continuation of applying the therapeutic protocol by the Advisory Committee, which includes preventive measures for the burial of the death of the Corona virus cases and a new treatment procedure for the hospitals are updated according to recommendations of the World Health Organization and the recent treatment mechanism.

Minister Yazji noted that the public health laboratories are carrying out 300 PCR analyzes daily and the Ministry has received medical assistance from friendly countries like China and Russia besides the ongoing online communication to exchange experiences on everything related to Corona virus and the therapeutic and preventive protocols.

He reiterated that the unilateral coercive economic measures and the so-called” Caesar Act” have greatly affected the health sector, especially the import of medicines.
