Biderson calls for lifting sanctions on Syria

UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Biderson, has announced the date for the resumption of the work of the Syrian “constitutional committee” in Geneva, revealing that it will be on the 24th of August.

In a briefing to him during a video conference session of the Security Council on the situation in Syria, Pederson said that the plan to hold the third round of these talks is now confirmed, “Earlier this week, I was able to speak with the co-chair nominated by the Syrian government and the co-chair who The Syrian opposition nominated him and confirmed that the meetings would start in Geneva on August 24, on the condition that the travel procedures and conditions should not be changed.

“I encouraged everyone to prepare for a fruitful session on the agenda, and I hope that after that we can move forward in subsequent sessions in a systematic, professional and objective manner,” added Biderson .

Biderson, who expressed his hope that the main international parties with influence fully support the success of the next session, revealed that he received support for the resumption of the work of the “constitutional committee” by the heads of state guarantors of the “Astana” process, wishing the influential countries to work for progress in The broader political process.
