US President Donald Trump has ordered the Defense Department to withdraw 9,500 US soldiers in Germany by next September.
Reuters quoted a senior US official, who was not identified, as saying that the total number of American soldiers currently stationed in Germany is 34,500.
He added that part of the soldiers leaving will be redirected to Poland and allied countries to Washington, while the rest will return to the United States.
The move comes a day after comments by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who criticized “Trump‘s controversial approach” in managing the crisis of protests in the United States after the killing of the young George Floyd.
