In a special comment to RT, the Egyptian parliamentarian, Major General of Military Intelligence, Tamer El-Shahawi, expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the statements of the Syrian Foreign Minister, in which he confirmed Damascus’s readiness to provide any support to Cairo.
Al-Shahawi, a member of the Defense and National Security Committee in the House of Representatives, said that the Egyptian and Syrian people “have been entangled for many years and cooperated in the Arab-Israeli conflict … and Egypt considers Syria’s stability and unity a pillar of Egyptian and Arab national security alike.”
He added: “Even if the visions differ sometimes according to the political estimates of each country, but this historical link that connects the two large Arab regional states, which were one country, one flag and one army, is always governed by one destiny.”
He pointed out that “since the beginning of the Syrian crisis and Egypt, its position has been consistent not to recognize any unilateral decisions issued regarding the expropriation of Syria’s right to the Golan, and Egypt has absorbed hundreds of thousands of brotherly Syrian people fleeing from the conflict areas without considering them guests, but according to the description of our President Sisi – our people. The Syrians. ”
And Al-Shahawi concluded: “The statement of the Syrian Foreign Minister is expected from the Syrian brothers, and I am not surprised that Damascus also fully knows the value of Cairo, the value of its stability, and the challenges and threats it faces on the various strategic axes .. Therefore, the official Syrian position is very appreciated by Egypt, with all its political and popular spectra.”
On Tuesday, Walid al-Muallem said that Damascus confirms its support for the “Libyan National Army” led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and for Cairo‘s moves towards the Libyan situation.
