Russian embassy in Washington exposed to threats after an article for the “New York Times”

The Russian embassy in Washington announced the threats of the lives of its diplomats, against the backdrop of a fake article published by the New York Times alleging Moscow’s funding of Taliban militants in Afghanistan.

The Russian embassy has requested the US authorities to respond appropriately to threats received by diplomats due to false news.

The Russian diplomats also called on the American authorities to “take effective measures to secure and implement their international obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961“.

The Russian embassy included copies of the threat postings, which were launched by some Twitter users against its employees.

The embassy called on “The New York Times” to stop publishing fake news, which is now threatening people’s lives.

The New York Times reported earlier, citing unnamed CIA officials, in an article alleging that Russian military intelligence offered rewards to militants linked to the Taliban, in exchange for carrying out attacks on US soldiers in Afghanistan, without giving the article any evidence.

Republicans, members of the US Congress, had published a report earlier, accusing Russia of financing the Taliban, and calling for tougher sanctions against Moscow.

The Russian embassy in Afghanistan has repeatedly denied the authenticity of what it claims are reports of Russian assistance to the “Taliban”, and said that these reports are aimed at distorting Moscow’s constructive stance aimed at building a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
