Iranian Foreign Ministry: A meeting of the guarantor countries of the Astana process on Syria soon

The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that a meeting of the three guarantors of the Astana process on resolving the crisis in Syria will be held soon.

Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousawi said during a press conference today that a meeting of guarantor countries “Iran, Russia and Turkey” will be held soon via video conference technology on Syria and will be scheduled during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif to Ankara and Moscow.

The Astana meetings began in Kazakh capital in the beginning of 2017 and held fourteen meetings, one of which was in the Russian city of Sochi and affirmed in its entirety the firm commitment to preserve the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria and to continue the war on terrorist organizations there until its final defeat.

Mousawi pointed out that the latest report published by the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding Iran‘s peaceful nuclear activities takes into consideration American positions, calling on the agency to stand neutral and that its reports on Iran should not be affected by the Zionist entity‘s allegations, stressing that his country would have a position if the agency issued any non-constructive report .

Mousawi stressed the need for Washington to stop its economic terrorism and return to the nuclear agreement signed with his country, which calls for an end to the arms embargo on Iran.

In another context, Mousawi explained that the report of the United Nations Secretariat on the use of Iranian weapons targeting Saudi Aramco facilities is just allegations and lacks any documents.
