China accuses the United Nations of interfering in its internal affairs

The delegation of China to the international institutions in Geneva considered that the statements of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michel Bachelet, regarding Hong Kong, were a blatant interference in China’s affairs.

The statement came in response to comments Bachelet said recently that “all new national security legislation pertaining to Hong Kong” must be fully in line with China’s human rights obligations “and international treaties to protect civil and political freedoms.

Hours after Bachelet made her remarks, the China Mission to the United Nations in Geneva issued a statement saying, “These remarks represent a blatant interference in China’s sovereignty and internal affairs and a violation of the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter, to which China expresses its deep resentment and resolute objection.”
