Beijing: We respect and understand Russia’s nuclear deterrence strategy

The Chinese Foreign Ministry commented on Russia’s new nuclear deterrence strategy, saying that Beijing respects this and understands Russia‘s efforts to protect its national interests and security.

“The Chinese side has drawn attention to this document,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Li Jian on Wednesday. Currently, in the field of international strategic security, cases of unilateral action are increasing, which dealt a serious blow to the global strategic balance of forces and stability. The Chinese side respects and understands Russia’s efforts to protect its national interests and security.

He stressed that China is ready to work with all parties to safeguard strategic stability, as well as to promote international peace and security.

And on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the basics of Russian state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence.

The document regulates the conditions under which Russia reserves the right to strike a nuclear strike, as it is defensive in nature, aims to keep the capabilities of Russian nuclear forces at a sufficient level to ensure nuclear deterrence, and ensure the protection of the state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to deter a potential enemy from aggression against Russia and its allies.
