The Cuban President condemns the attack on his country’s embassy in Washington

Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel condemned the armed attack on the Cuban embassy in Washington yesterday.

“We condemn this aggression and are awaiting an investigation into the attack and countries must protect the diplomatic missions accredited to them,” Kanel said on Twitter today.

The Cuban embassy in the United States was subjected to yesterday’s shooting by an unidentified gunman without causing any human casualties.

In turn, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez announced in statements to Cuban television that Mara Ticache, Chargé d’Affairs of the American Embassy in Havana, was summoned and his country’s strong protest against the terrorist aggression was expressed, pointing out that the increasing and systematic hostile discourse against Cuba by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other officials in The Ministry encourages such aggression.

Rodriguez indicated that the Cuban government is awaiting investigations by the American authorities regarding the identity and motives of the perpetrator of the aggression, stressing that Havana has indicated its willingness to participate in order to advance the investigation.

Rodriguez called on the US State Department to take the necessary measures to fully comply with the responsibilities of the Vienna Convention and ensure the full security of the Cuban embassy and the permanent mission to the United Nations in New York as well as Cuban officials in both them and their families.
