Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Corona pandemic in the world showed the inability of some international organizations to cope with the crisis, warning that the consequences of the epidemic will be severe and long-term.
“This unprecedented pandemic has shown that the effectiveness of international organizations does not rise to the desired level, and this is the least that can be said about them, as their performance calls for reliance on what is better,” Peskov said today, Saturday, in statements to the First Russian Channel.
He pointed out that this concerns primarily international organizations such as global health, the World Trade Organization and the Group of Twenty, explaining that each country in the current circumstances behaves alone instead of making collective efforts.
He continued: “We see that other international organizations are apparently not intended to act and deal with such a crisis.”
Peskov pointed out that the current situation calls for an analysis of the consequences of the crisis and ways to develop international structures in the future in order to gain real effectiveness, adding: “At the present time, the work performed by the aforementioned organizations cannot be described as acceptable.”
He warned that the world had faced a severe economic crisis after Corona, and continued: “Sooner or later, the Corona virus will retreat or maybe it will ever disappear from the world, and then economic issues will return to the fore.”
Peskov warned that the consequences of this economic crisis will remain for a period of longer than a day or a month or two, adding: “The situation in the global economy will be somewhat harsh, and that will require the adoption of regular medium and long-term support measures.”
He stressed that Russia has the necessary reserves to take such measures, noting the importance of using these capabilities in a timely and most effective manner.
